The Cavalry Ain't Comin'

As the New Year becomes the current year it serves us well to remember a lesson 2009 brought with it, the cavalry isn't coming with the promised jobs relief. This fact is made resoundingly clear as the state of Illinois reports an unemployment rate of 11.1% at the end of January 2010.

Two key premises of the Illinois State Crime Commission/ Police Athletic League of Illinois are that "tough guys don't do drugs," and perhaps the most relevant in these trying times, "before kids can go places they need a place to go."

When parents or guardians haven't got the ability to provide for themselves, children suffer. They cannot reach for the stars or believe that they can be anything their hearts desire. They cannot go places, they have nowhere to go.

Serving Illinois citizens in times of need is a staple of what the ISCC/PAL does. In response to the current need I would like to tell you about or new Entrepreneur Development Program.

The program is comprised of a group of successful business professionals, attorneys, and other leaders in the community who will join ISCC/PAL staff and volunteers to provide fundamental skills and training in order to prepare new entrepreneurs for business.

The program is targeted for returning veterans and anyone else who might need a little help getting started in the world of business.

We hope that you will be interested in joining us in creating real opportunities for those who want to make their own ways in the world. Please call me with any questions you may have.
