$10,000 reward pressures murder suspect

Oak Brook- The Illinois State Crime Commission offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of Jerry Hudson.

DuPage County State's Attorney, Joe Birkett announced Monday, January 4, that first degree murder charges had been filed in the New Year's Day murder of Melissa Bridgewater of Bolingbrook at the Double Tree Hotel in Oak Brook. Authorities charged Bridgewater's ex-husband, Hudson, of Bolingbrook.

"He pinned her by running his car in to hers, a rental vehicle, he then opened fire", Birkett said.

Bridgewater was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

"The reward is the least we can do given the loss of life and the horrible way this crime happened," said Illinois State Crime Commission, Executive Director, Jerry Elsner. "Money isn't the issue, helping solve crimes is, if $100,000 was needed we would have put it up."

The day after the reward was offered Hudson turned himself into Oak Brook police.

"Our sources tell us people contacted the individual's family, and said if this guy doesn't come forward we're going after the reward," said Oak Brook Chief of Police, Tom Sheahan. "The reward raised the level of awareness, once it hit newspapers, T.V., and the radio we started getting a lot of phone calls."

The Illinois State Crime Commission has worked with several local law enforcement offices by offering large rewards in the past.
